Speech Therapy

Is Speech Therapy Right for my child?

Speech Therapy supports communication and feeding skills through meaningful therapeutic activities. Speech Therapy can enhance functional performance within the following areas:

  • Receptive Language
  • Expressive Language
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Articulation
  • Oral Motor Skills like drooling
  • Stuttering

 Speech Therapy Evaluation

A speech therapy evaluation is completed by our speech-language pathologist (SLP). During the evaluation the SLP will asses the patient's current functional status in the areas above. Together with the patient and family, a treatment plan is developed with short-term and long-term goals to improve targeted skills and functional limitations. The frequency and duration of speech therapy are also determined during the evaluation. The speech therapy evaluation typically lasts 60 minutes.

Speech Therapy Sessions

Speech Therapy sessions are performed by a license SLP. The sessions are used to address the goals developed within the ST evaluation. The therapist provides 1:1 direct treatment integrating therapeutic activities to enhance progress. Parents are encouraged to participate in therapy where they learn techniques to enhance their child's receptive and expressive communication skills. Each speech therapy session is 60 minutes in duration.
